My rent is approximately double the price that the other International students pay, but it’s pretty hard to complain about the price of rent when I get this view almost on a nightly basis (Oh, and the fact that my University pays for my cost of living helps too! ).

Hopefully judging from this photo, it’s not hard to realize why I’m in love with this city!

Afterwords, we had an opportunity to look at the various products that the family was selling to tourists. In the heart of the night we were taken to the room where they make and sell their scarves. The sheer variety of colors, fabrics, and lengths would make the largest department stores blush. I captured this photo as we were entering the room. I loved how the light was leaking out onto the dark streets as if it were calling us to bask in its glory. Awe. Good times.

At any given moment, there’s thousands of shots of the Tower being taken. One of my goals as a photographer is to capture iconic landmarks in new and creative ways. I originally shot this photo in color RAW processing on my D60, and then converted the image to black and white using Apple’s Aperture 3.

The B&W really makes the imagine seem timeless. The possibility exists that it could have been shot last night or 30 years ago. Personally, I love this photo, but I’m not satisfied. I’m always trying to raise the bar, so during my next visit to the City of Love, I would like to look at taking more creative photos of the iconic landmark.

I shot this in a remote village in Aswan, Egypt during my first study abroad venture. I love how the street lights reflect off of the sandy streets. Also, the large home in the background reflects very American colors – Red and White strips, with large slabs of blue. Interesting.

In this part of town, many families make the majority of their money from selling visiting tourists scarfs, bracelets, and other handmade apparel. If you look closely, in the background there’s a table in the middle of the “road” set up for the specific purpose of selling these goods. Does the fact that the goods they are selling are mainly to Americans and other tourists have anything to do with the home I mentioned before? I don’t know. But still, very interesting to think about.
